Petroleum Laboratory

ZABS opened a Petroleum laboratory at its head office in 2009, offering a diesel, biofuel and petrol analysis service. Continued investment in new technology has ensured that all equipment in the laboratory is state-of-the-art, matching or surpassing its local and international counterparts. These instruments of highest quality include the Iqnition Quality Tester (IQT), Emission spectrophotometer, XRF for Sulfur in Oil and a range of viscometers and distillation units.

The Laboratory provides a number of tests including viscosity, density, distillation recovery, flashpoint, water (by Karl Fischer), appearance, colour, softening point, flash point, sulphur, particulate contamination (wear metals), octane and cetane numbers and, as an extra test, bacterial and fungal contamination. Testing is carried out according to the ZS, ISO or ASTM methods.
