The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) Executive Director Mr. Manuel Mutale says consumers must begin to think differently about locally manufactured products and change perceptions of local products being inferior. He says there is no need for importation of certain products that can be manufactured locally as a number of them have passed through quality checks and are complying with national standards. The ZABS Head made these observations when he visited the Gourock manufacturing units in Ndola recently. Mr. Mutale said consumers should have confidence in these products as they have been duly certified by the national standards body.

“We are increasingly focused on changing perceptions about local products being inferior by working with industry and ensuring they are held to high standards. I am impressed with Gourock Zambia Limited who are manufacturers of various products such as roofing sheets, PVC pipes, candles and matches. When you look at the quality of these products, it’s clear that these are products that are complying with national standards. Our appeal to the Zambian consumers is for them to prioritize the Proudly Zambian campaign in line with the push by the Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry and be able to support and promote local industries”. Mr.  Mutale said.

Meanwhile the Gourock Zambia Managing Director Mr. Uday Desai has applauded ZABS for its continued support of the various sectors of industry. Mr. Desai expressed gratitude for the role which ZABS has played and continues to play in guiding the company and other businesses on Standardization and quality matters.
